Missing the dance clubs during the pandemic I started a practice of solo go-go dancing to bring myself to a state of private euphoria. These private dances made public, offer a meditation for celebrating tiny pleasures and joys of survival.
I imagine myself in a club. As I go-go I remember both past ecstatic joys on the dance floors, as well as picturing future public dance spaces of gathering and gyration. All this landing me here, allowing myself to be present in the now.
Speakeasy Go-go is a gathering of release and catharsis.
Premiered Sept 2021 in the Philadelphia Fringe Festival. Excerpts of the piece have also been shown at the Queer Ol' Opry at The Brick in Brooklyn, NY.
